Screenplays are about precision. They work they way they do because the audience has been conditioned to respond to them in certain ways, at certain times, and no matter how noble, funny, or exciting your idea is.  If you do not structure your story to take advantage of the power of that subconscious emotional model, then you are dead in the water.
